Series 2b Forward Control Camper

Another hairbrained scheme to build an overland camper on an old Series 2 Forward control

My labour of love

.....well, one of them at least !

It's a 1967 Land Rover Series 2b forward control. OK, it's the remains of a 1967 Land Rover Series 2b forward control. I bought it from a chap up in Country Durham (yes, I live in Dorset.. it was a long drive !) in the state you see it here. The intention was (and still is) a full overhaul and rebuild as an overland camper. I've been back and forth on the spec of the thing during the time I've had it... but things are finally starting to come together now.

It's going to be a 300 tdi automatic.. for a number of reasons. 1) Diesel is likely to be more readily available when I'm travelling to far-flung parts of the world. 2) The auto box is going to be a nicer drive and much easier to make work in a forward control vehicle. 3) The Tdi is nice and simple and very reliable.

I sourced the engine and box just recently from a very nice girl called Maria (hello !) who lives in South Devon... straight out of a rusty Discovery. The chassis is sitting here ready to go and the axles have been partially stripped, painted and are awaiting a rebuild.  If you are bored, you can see a gallery of pictures : Stripping an ENV axle gallery

So... more updates will appear on the site as time goes by. I'll start some posts on the second project vehicle soon as well... It never ends !
